Provider HIE FAQ

Q. How do I access HealthInfoNet to support care for my patients and how much does it cost?

A. First, find out if your organization/practice is participating. It may be as simple as asking your Information Technology department for a user account. If your organization/practice is not participating, contact HealthInfoNet to find out how. The cost of connecting to HealthInfoNet varies by bed size for hospital or number of authorized providers/support staff for physician practices.

Q. Do I have to participate in this?

A. No. HealthInfoNet is voluntary for providers and patients. Participation in HealthInfoNet will however help providers qualify for federal meaningful use incentives in the future.

Q: Will I be able to exchange information electronically with providers in other states?

A. In the future, yes. HealthInfoNet will connect with the National Health Information Network (NwHIN), which will provide the connectivity between states.

Q: What kind of equipment and Internet connections do I need?

A. You must be using an electronic medical record (EHR) system and have a broadband connection. HealthInfoNet’s technical infrastructure is vendor neutral and can connect to most every major EHR system. HealthInfoNet is also setting up view only access for providers without EHRs or those that are unable to interface with HealthInfoNet’s system.
