HealthInfoNet CEO & Executive Director, Devore S. Culver, and COO Shaun T. Alfreds, are co-authors of “NLP based congestive heart failure case finding: A prospective analysis on statewide electronic medical records” published in the August 2015 International Journal of Medical Informatics.
The study looked at proactively identifying congestive heart failure (CHF) patients through the use of a predictive algorithm and natural language processing (NLP) that uses structured and unstructured longitudinal electronic health record (EHR) data from Maine’s Statewide Health Information Exchange. This algorithm and the longitudinal data from the HIE allows complementary and cost-efficient identification of CHF patients and is expected to improve the care for patients that are in the early stages of CHF.
